The Chicks are Here!
Coco the Cochin
The first chick to hatch was Coco the Cochin. She is dark grey with a yellow chest. She has some yellow marks around her eyes and a spotty beak. She announced her arrival quite loudly at 4:30 am.
Wellie the Welsummer
Heart Heart the Cochin
The second chick was the only Welsummer to hatch, so we call her Wellie. She is very brave and will perch on your hand if you put it in the brooder. Wellie is light grey with a dark grey head. She also has a different beak shape and comb than the other three. It's not very clear in the pictures.
Heart Heart hatched near dinner time the next day, followed shortly by Fuffy (not a spelling mistake, that's how Alice wants to spell the name).
Heart Heart is light colored all over and has the most yellow of all the chicks. She has turned into the most outspoken and bold of the chicks. She often climbs on top of the heater and yells when she wants some attention.

Do you know how to post the video of Betty singing a lullaby to the chicks in the evening. That has to go up. Maybe 2 places. Here and on the larchhaven.blogspot.ca spot. I just don't know how to get it up there.
ReplyDeleteI love you report on the hatching. I loooove birthing stories. Such sweet little chicks and I love all the names and descriptions of their emerging personalities. Can't wait to show this post to all my kids. Keep the reports coming!
