The Chicks are Here!

Coco the Cochin

After 3 weeks of incubating eggs, 4 little chicks hatched. Two hatched during the night, and two more the next day. We call them all "she" because we are all about wishful thinking. 

The first chick to hatch was Coco the Cochin. She is dark grey with a yellow chest. She has some yellow marks around her eyes and a spotty beak. She announced her arrival quite loudly at 4:30 am.

Wellie the Welsummer

Heart Heart the Cochin

The second chick was the only Welsummer to hatch, so we call her Wellie. She is very brave and will perch on your hand if you put it in the brooder. Wellie is light grey with a dark grey head. She also has a different beak shape and comb than the other three. It's not very clear in the pictures.

Heart Heart hatched near dinner time the next day, followed shortly by Fuffy (not a spelling mistake, that's how Alice wants to spell the name).

Heart Heart is light colored all over and has the most yellow of all the chicks. She has turned into the most outspoken and bold of the chicks. She often climbs on top of the heater and yells when she wants some attention.

Fuffy the Cochin

Fuffy is the smallest of the chicks, and the only black one. As you can see, she has some cool splashy coloring. She has no interest in being picked up or pet on her chest, but she was the first to figure out where the food is kept.
