Hatching Eggs

Yesterday we went to Wild Acres farm and picked up some hatching eggs. If all goes well, we will have some Cochin and Welsumer chicks in 3 weeks.

Right now we have 14 eggs, but the hatch rate is usually between 50-70% (80% if you're really lucky). The kids are very excited, and I can already see why people would order day old chicks instead of eggs.

Betty wishes she could share the egg hatching with her grandmother and her grandma. She says "they will hatch when the day arrives, and another day after that the eggs will be hatching." She is very excited. My transcription should really include that she is waving her arms around and jumping up and down and shouting this information.

  1. 3 weeks should just be about enough time to build a chicken coop. That should be fun. I can just see Betty jumping around while she narrates...it makes me smile.😘

  2. Hatching eggs is going to be a big adventure. I want to know how you keep the eggs warm while you are waiting for them to hatch. Please tell me more.

  3. How are the eggs doing? Are you allowed to touch the shells? Any little chicks pecking their way through yet?
